Promoters of Free Market, Haters of Liberals?

Yes, I did know but clical liberalism also rationalized the squalid living conditions of the working cl and took no notice of widows, orphans or those maimed on the job. It esposed eugenics and social Darwinism. Basically, it was a philosophy that justified the extreme social and economic stratification of the early industrial period. It used a Calvinist sense of predestination and special selection that said the rich were rich because they possessed good character and qualities and the poor were poor because they had bad characters and were poor quality people. Each cl of people were where they were because of who they were and there was nothing anyone could do about it. It was nothing like modern political liberalism. The two "liberalisms" aren't in any way related.
